The lipstick that he got me was Russian Red and being a Russian myself, I had to have this colour in my collection. And let me tell you guys: this colour is freaking photogenic. Don't take me wrong, I really liked the way this lipstick looked on my lips in real life, but boy-o-boy, in photographs this lipstick is true killah. MAC Matte Russian Red Lipstick has a rich texture and It stays on 6-7 hours without any smudge. It even does not get patchy or uneven as it fades. I was literally amazed to feel the intensity of the Russian red lipstick. Pros of MAC Matte Russian Red lipstick: – Ultra creamy and color packed – Demi-sheer with a wet-look luster finish. This is my review of the MAC lipstick in Russian Red. I think it is good for women of color. Stay CONNECTED with ME. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com.
Dvd ripper application. I was never a red lipstick person until I tried The Mac Ruby Woo. It was and still is, one of the best shade of Red I have ever worn. And then, comes The Mac Russian Red. It is again one of the reds that give me a glamorous feeling every time I put it on. Writing this post on MAC Ruby Woo vs Russian Red as a lot of you have been asking me which one is a better red lipstick shade. 🙂
Trust me it's not so easy to do a comparison review on two of my favourite lipstick, because obviously, I might sound a bit partial to either of the two shades, but I promise to keep it short, informative and balanced. 🙂
MAC Ruby Woo vs Russian Red
MAC RUBY WOO
Website description: Very matte vivid blue-red. A long-wearing Lipstick formula with intense color payoff and a completely matte finish.
MAC RUSSIAN RED
Website description: Intense bluish-red. A creamy rich Lipstick formula with high color payoff in a no-shine matte finish.
About the lipsticks:
The overly famous Ruby woo falls under ‘Retro matte' category of the Mac Matte Lipstick. Retro matte lipsticks are super matte and can be extremely hard to apply on dry/ chapped lips. A well-moisturized lip is a must before applying the lipstick on or it may look horribly sad. But, retro matte lipsticks has it's own beauty. Since the texture of the lipsticks is super matte, the color payoff is amazing and it's long-wearing formula is commendable.
Russian Red, on the other hand, falls under Mac's ‘matte' category and therefore is very smooth and easy to apply. It is way off creamy and has a high color payoff. It has the perfect matte texture and doesn't have any shimmer or shine.

MAC Ruby Woo vs Russian Red
Shade: At first glance, there is not much difference between the two shades. Both the shades have a blue undertone to it. When applied on lips, Ruby woo looks brighter than the Russian Red as the later has more intense bluish undertone to it. In short, Russian red is deeper than Ruby woo.
Texture: Ruby woo is super matte and needs a good amount of swipes and the right amount of pressure to get the perfect red pout. Works best on well-moisturized lips. Russian red, on the other hand, is super easy to apply since it's texture is that of a creamy matte. The matte texture of both the lipsticks helps the product from feathering, so you have a non messy lips most of the day.
Lipstick Hack: I am sure you all know this very common lipstick hack where you dab a little amount of loose powder over the lipstick to give it a matte finish. I tried the trick with Russian Red lipstick, and I was quite surprised to see that it looked (almost) like Ruby Woo. The powder minimises the deeper undertone and gives it a bit brighter look.
For those who love rich matte Red lipsticks, I suggest you guys try both the shades out!

Mac Matte Lipstick Russian Red Review
I bought this all time famous lipstick named Mac Russian Red online after reading its rave reviews from Temptalia, Makeupalley and other bloggers. And must say thoroughly impressed! This red lipstick is a gorgeous and eye catching blue toned red. It is one of the flattering, glamorous red lipsticks which suit all skin tones and can be worn with both western and Indian attire. It is insanely pigmented, only one swipe is required for full coverage. I really love Mac Russian Red for being one of the universally flattering red of all time….suits Indian skin amazingly. The shade is very bright, perfect for night outs and evening parties. It stays for around 6 hours and leaves a red tint after fading. Even though the formula is matte, it is very easy to wear and does not dry your lips. The texture is creamy matte and transfers as well. The fragrance is signature Mac vanilla smell.
It comes in black tube with silver lining. It is very sturdy and travel friendly too. There is no indication of colour from outside but the colour names are listed at the bottom of Mac lipsticks.
Pros:
- Pretty blue based red shade
- A red which unbelievably suits all skin tones.
- Superb Pigmentation. Just a swipe is enough.
- Glides smoothly on my lips even though its matte
- Does not dry out the lips. Better than Mac Ruby Woo in this department!
- Instantly glams up any outfit and look. Its a show stealer.
- Long lasting. Lasts upto 6hours on me.
- Fragrance is signature vanilla.
- Travel friendly. The tube is quite sturdy.
Cons:
- A bit expensive. But then who am I to complain….its Mac!
- It does transfers a bit sometimes which can get irritating.
Price: Rs.990
VNA Rating: 4.5/5
Final Verdict: Mac Russian Red is a blue based red which has a matte finish (not completely matte but has creamy finish too which makes it very wearable) and looks good on almost everyone. Every girl deserves a red lipstick of her choice in her makeup collection; this will be a serious contender! It stays longer and offers great pigmentation. Although on the expensive side, its great quality is completely worth the price. It glides on the lips really smoothly, does not pull or tug but transfers a little bit. It neither dries the lips nor looks patchy or accentuates the lines. I just love the feel of this lipstick and this is a must have lipstick in everyone's vanity!
Editor: Mac Russian Red v/s Ruby Woo: Although Ruby Woo is a better choice when it comes to the shade but it is insanely drying! The retro matte formula makes it difficult to work with it and with times it gets even drier! But then it just stays on and on never budging from its place. But if you have dry lips then Russian Red would be a better choice. And oh yeah the newly launch Mac Riri Woo is just a dupe of Ruby Woo.
